N1 carries comments by Dr Ivana Stefanovic of emergency services: humid weather, high temperatures, and sudden weather changes are especially hard on people with chronic illness, and overnight temperatures did not fall below 20 degrees, making it a tropical night. She said calls from cardiovascular patients increased, including a 17-year-old patient with acute coronary syndrome; temperature is a risk factor, usually as a contributing factor. Stefanovic advises avoiding the strongest sun from about 11:00 to 15-16:00, especially for children and older people, drinking enough fluids, cooling down, and using air conditioning when overheating is a risk so the heart can rest at night.
