Rakovac residents report evening water outages; a new well is promised for September

Published: August 5, 2026 at 01:04 PM. Updated: August 5, 2026 at 01:04 PM.

Residents of Rakovac near Novi Sad told 021 that they have been without water in the evenings for several days. JKP Beočin attributed the interruptions to extremely low water levels at sources and wells plus higher consumption, and plans to bring a third new well online in early September. The outlet reports that, according to the utility, its outage notice was published only on Facebook.

NIS plans higher refining amid fuel-supply constraints

Published: August 5, 2026 at 07:05 PM. Updated: August 5, 2026 at 07:05 PM.

The Mining and Energy Ministry says that weeks of low Danube levels are keeping fuel-supply conditions difficult. NIS expects to raise crude processing in the second half of August, once already ordered deliveries arrive, from about 9,500 to about 13,000 tonnes a day. The authorities also plan to allow the company to make about 23,000 tonnes of operational reserves available to other oil companies; imports of about 20,000 tonnes of diesel by water remain uncertain.

The emergency staff introduced no restrictions and asked people to save water and electricity

Published: August 3, 2026 at 08:08 AM. Updated: August 3, 2026 at 12:25 PM.

After the staff meeting on 3 August, Prime Minister Đuro Macut said the energy system was stable and no measures were being imposed on residents; the appeal to use water and electricity rationally remains. Low Danube levels have reduced output: the energy minister put Đerdap 1 at about 20% capacity and Đerdap 2 at 30%.

The Pančevo refinery is operating normally for now, but the risk from a further Danube decline remains

Published: August 3, 2026 at 08:18 AM. Updated: August 3, 2026 at 07:10 PM.

N1 reports that on 3 August the Pančevo refinery was operating normally and the low Danube had not yet affected production; savings measures are being taken in other processes. The day before, Aleksandar Vučić had only described a possible temporary halt if water falls further: no actual shutdown has been announced.

Four explosive devices have been recovered from the Danube near Petrovaradin Fortress

Published: August 2, 2026 at 01:11 PM. Updated: August 2, 2026 at 09:10 PM.

021 republished a Danas report based on unofficial police information: since 1 July, two hand grenades, a mortar shell and an aerial bomb have been found along the Petrovaradin bank near the fortress and Kamenički Park. The aerial bomb was neutralised; if you find a suspicious object along the low Danube, report it to police and wait for a patrol rather than handling it yourself.
