Serbia wildfires: Deliblatska Sands remains the most difficult area

In an N1 update at 18:47, the situation in Deliblatska Sands remained difficult but stable: small fires and smouldering were reported deep in the forest, while Romanian firefighters said the terrain makes the fire hard to extinguish. Four EU helicopters, a Russian Il-76 and ground teams are involved.

RHMZ warns of extreme conditions for wildfire spread

RHMZ warned of a high risk of fires starting and spreading outdoors: 30–35°C is expected on 23 August, while most days at the end of the month are forecast at 30–35°C with local readings above 35°C.

The Eko buna environmental protest is taking place at Ušće Park on 23 August: students and neighbourhood councils are discussing fires, logging and other environmental problems, with organisers publishing participants’ statements.

Aid is being collected in Novi Sad for people affected by wildfires

A six-hour aid drive in Novi Sad collected RSD 501,590 and EUR 105, along with water, electrolytes, masks, gloves, wipes, coffee, biscuits and other equipment. The money will fund firefighting equipment; collection points operated in Novi Sad and Veternik.
