Rector Djokic is ready to join a student election list

University of Belgrade rector Vladan Djokic said he answered positively when students asked about his possible place on their list. He did not name candidates, saying the list is not yet final and elections have not been called.

Picula: future elections will be a criterion for Brussels

European Parliament rapporteur for Serbia Tonino Picula told N1 that the preparation, conduct, and aftermath of future elections will be an important criterion in assessing Brussels' relations with Belgrade. He also linked the lack of progress to a low likelihood of opening Cluster 3; this is an MEP's assessment, not a new EU institutional decision.

Serbia and the US held their first strategic dialogue

The first Serbia-US strategic dialogue was held in Washington on July 17. According to the published joint statement, the sides signed memorandums on energy infrastructure and Fulbright cost sharing, while EXIM approved a $50 million loan guarantee for 5G deployment in Serbia.

Four independent members confirm participation in the REM Council's work

Dubravka Valić Nedeljković, Ira Prodanov Krajišnik, Mileva Malešić, and Rodoljub Šabić confirmed that they will enter the REM Council and take up work after parliament adopted an authentic interpretation of the Electronic Media Law on July 10. Under that interpretation, a resignation statement submitted before taking office is not a resignation under Article 18(4) and does not end the mandate.

European Parliament urges Serbia to show genuine commitment to EU values

In a July 12 post, the European Parliament linked Serbia's progress toward EU membership to rule-of-law reforms and stronger democratic standards. The same message described free and fair elections as necessary to resolve the political crisis and normalization of relations with Kosovo as a necessary step.

Potocari commemoration concludes and ten victims are buried

The commemoration marking the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide concluded at the Potocari Memorial Centre on July 11, followed by a religious rite and the burial of the remains of ten newly identified victims. N1 and Danas report that 6,772 victims have been buried there so far, while a 2024 UN General Assembly resolution established July 11 as the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide.
