Belgrade launches overhaul of 29 CAF trams and keeps new-procurement plan

Mayor Aleksandar Sapic said on June 23 that the city has opened procurement for a full overhaul of 29 Spanish CAF trams; if the process succeeds, Belgrade should receive another 30 new trams within two years, while the city is not abandoning a larger 80-100 tram procurement. In the same remarks he confirmed timelines for several city projects: the new Sava bridge remains in the spring-summer window, Gandijeva works are expected by spring-summer 2027, and the New Belgrade BAS station building is being built at 27,000 square meters.

Sapic: Procurement opened for overhaul of 29 trams, and the city is not giving up on new purchases

(Šapić: Raspisana nabavka za remont 29 tramvaja, a ne odustaje se ni od nabavke novih)

N1, citing Beta, reports Aleksandar Sapic's statement: a procurement was opened several days ago for a full overhaul of 29 CAF trams, while one tram was completely destroyed and cannot be repaired. If the process succeeds, he said, the city will receive 30 new trams within two years, but is not giving up on buying 80-100 trams. Sapic also said works on the new Sava bridge are continuing despite a smaller delay, with the opening window still spring-summer; Gandijeva is to get a roundabout and works are expected by spring-summer 2027. According to him, a 27,000-square-meter station building is being built at the new BAS site in New Belgrade, and after utilities works move to tunnel excavation the boulevard will no longer be fully closed, with at least one lane always passable.
