N1 and Danas, citing RFE/RL, report that the Netherlands officially does not support opening Cluster 3 in Serbia's EU talks, while diplomatic sources say at least five member states oppose it. The main reasons are rule of law, Serbia's failure to sanction Russia, and the assessment that opening the cluster now would not be merit-based.
SNS president Milos Vucevic said Serbia should expect both parliamentary and presidential elections in autumn, but that the party has not yet discussed a presidential candidate. Danas and 021 report his estimate of a possible September, October, or November timeframe and his view that the vote will probably be SNS's hardest since 2012, while Novosti separately publishes Aleksandar Vucic's message framing the future vote as a choice between 'Serbia of the past' and 'Serbia of the future.'
GSP Centar union president Ivan Bankovic told N1 that no official invitation to a meeting with Aleksandar Vucic had arrived by publication time, even though July 2 is the deadline Vucic named for responding to public-transport workers' demands. The June 24 demands remain the same: stop the PPP tender, do not transfer four trolleybus lines to a private operator, buy at least 90 autonomous-capable trolleybuses and 300 buses, and guarantee that GSP lines will no longer be handed to private operators.
N1/Radio Kim published the accounts of Damjan Otasevic and Stefan Tatar, detained after the memorial service at Gazimestan: they allege psychological and physical pressure, a EUR 700 fine, and a three-year ban from Kosovo. Novosti/Tanjug carries a statement by Milos Terzic, deputy director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija: he says medical documentation will be used and expects a more concrete international response; the article also says 36 Serbs were detained after the June 28 memorial service.
At the U.S. Embassy reception in Belgrade marking 250 years of American independence, charge d'affaires Aleksandar Titolo said Serbia and the United States had entered a new era of bilateral relations. Kurir writes that from July 1 Serbian citizens are being issued a new burgundy passport, with an updated coat of arms, 32 differently designed pages, and added protection. Valid old passports do not need immediate replacement: they remain in use until expiry, while the new document goes to people whose old passport expires; issuance costs RSD 4,500.
