What it is
Parliamentary elections choose the 250 members of the National Assembly. They are called by the President of the Republic. The decision must set the polling day and takes effect on the day it is published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia.
Why it became important
On July 24, Kurir reported Aleksandar Vučić’s statement that he expected elections in October or November, and their calling in September or early October. That assessment may set a political expectation, but it does not itself set a date or start the election procedure.
Current status
As of July 26, 2026, the published report contains no decision calling parliamentary elections and no official polling day. The president’s decision will be published in the Official Gazette; the Republic Electoral Commission then publishes the documents and election timetable.
Which deadlines apply
For regular elections, the president makes the decision 90 days before the end of the four-year term of the current Assembly. No fewer than 45 and no more than 60 days may pass between calling the election and polling day. Early elections may follow the dissolution of the Assembly: in that case, the president issues the dissolution decree and the election decision at the same time.
What to watch next
The official decision will set polling day and start the formal election timetable, including deadlines for campaigning and submitting lists. Until then, reports of an expected month are political statements rather than a confirmed election schedule.
