BG Voz is getting 30 new trains, but infrastructure remains the question

N1 reports that Srbijavoz is buying 30 new Spanish CAF trains for BG Voz with a state guarantee for a 5.5 billion dinar, or 46.9 million euro, loan. Transport engineer Ivan Bankovic warns that without parallel investment in tracks, stations, platforms, and station access, the new trains may mainly stabilize the timetable rather than sharply increase urban-line frequency.

Thirty new trains are coming for BG Voz, but the question is whether they will have tracks to run on

(Mašinovođa je odsutan: Stiže 30 novih vozova za BG voz, ali pitanje je da li će imati po čemu da idu)

N1 says the government earlier approved a guarantee for a 5.5 billion dinar, or 46.9 million euro, loan to buy 30 new electric multiple-unit trains for the city-suburban railway. Together with nine Chinese trains expected by EXPO, Belgrade could have 39 new trains by late 2031 or early 2032. Engineer Ivan Bankovic says the current, already reduced timetable requires all 12 trains available to Srbijavoz, meaning the system has no operational reserve and cancellations for technical reasons have become regular. He says urban lines run about every half hour at peak and about hourly off-peak, and that without infrastructure work there will be no serious increase in departures over the next five years. The article also mentions the BG Voz Karaburma station project, estimated at 2.61 billion dinars or about 22.2 million euros, and says Infrastruktura zeleznice Srbije and Srbijavoz had not answered by publication.
